wait, what...?

Hello Mr. B,

My name is Michael Acosta and I'm the educational representative for WyoTech. WyoTech is a non-profit nationally accredited career college that offers programs in the transportation and motor sports industry. Students receive training in a fast-growing and exciting industry. Most students from our area attend the campus in Laramie, Wyoming; however, we have other locations in Florida and Pennsylvania. WyoTech is well known for the quality of graduates in the industry. You can look us up at https://www.wyotech.edu/

My primary job with WyoTech is to work with students through a motivational career workshop which shares a lot of good general information and statistical data about options for education after high school, including Traditional College, Junior College, Military and Technical Training.

One of the most interesting parts of the career workshop is an activity where we will interactively discuss some important information about how to have a professional attitude and how to conduct themselves during job interviews that will help them get employed. It's designed to help students realize the importance of continuing their education beyond high school and finding a career that fits them, whatever that might be. We also talk about grants, loans and scholarships available to seniors who choose to continue their education.

I would appreciate the opportunity to provide a career workshop to your senior students. I'm confident you would find it helpful and very supportive of the principals you are teaching in your classes. I would appreciate the opportunity to work with you and your students this school year.

I am scheduling appointments for September and October at this time. I can be contacted by phone, or e-mail. My e-mail address is Michael.acosta@zenith.org or you can feel free to call me at my office number (951) 532-5840. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Michael Acosta

weekly photo assignment - birds/worms eye view 12 +12

photo essay

find a few photos online and write in your own words a reaction...
cars are dangerous and when teen-agers drive  they should not be distracted or sing 'sweet child of mine' like in the step brothers movie or they could get hit by cars and break femurs so firemen need to rescue them and doctors need to fix all the broken bones... sometimes it takes a few months for everything to be ok and parents stress out and try to have faith that everything will be ok.
this is a very different looking image 16 years after some crazy religious fanatics hijacked airplanes and flew them into buildings just to create terror in america.  it took that long to clear the area and rebuild another structure in the same location in addition to a memorial to the 3,000 people who died from that days events. the terror organization never thought we would find them and bring justice to their caves and hidden compounds but the us military, fbi and cia eventually did find the leaders and end the possibility of other threats from them.

Dear Sweetwater Families:
Yesterday, the White House announced calling for an end to the Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals program (DACA). The DACA program allows undocumented immigrants who arrived in the United States. as minors to apply for a renewable two-year work permit and shields them from deportation.
It is important for you to know that all of our students have the right to attend school without the fear of detention and/or deportation. The Sweetwater school community believes strongly in ethics of tolerance and respect for all. What makes our district so unique is the different background and culture each student brings to our classrooms every day.
Last year, the Sweetwater Board of Trustees passed Resolution 4468, Advocating For and Protecting Each of the District’s Students as an outward demonstration of our commitment to “promote inclusion and provide a safe and secure environment…wherein each student and each employee is protected from all forms of discrimination.” The board then reinforced the resolution with adoption of Board Policies 5145.4, 5145.41, 5145.42 – all of which establish procedures to further protect/enforce our student’s immigration rights.
The Sweetwater District is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment for each of our students by affirming the clearly stated values of safety, inclusion, and equity. The policies affirm the District’s commitment specifically to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment for immigrant students and their families. Please know that these policies prohibit information-sharing with local law enforcement and federal immigration authority to the fullest extent possible under the law.
Further, the state of California has its own California Dream Act, which is unrelated to DACA and allows undocumented students to receive state financial aid for college.
We are grateful to our Board for their vision and leadership and we are proud of the beliefs and values we embrace as a district.
If you have questions or concerns regarding your legal rights, we encourage you to seek independent legal counsel. Additional resources for families can be found on the San Diego County Office of Education website at http://www.sdcoe.net/educators/Pages/Immigration-Law-Briefing-for-Schools.aspx
